2012 SVDP Walk for the Poor

For more than 178 years, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul has helped to feed and clothe the poor and needy of the world.  Donations from people like you make it possible.  Consequently, on Saturday, January 28, 2012, the Society’s District Council of Charlotte County Florida Inc. will hold its third annual Walk for the Poor.

The Walk will begin at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 211 W. Charlotte Avenue in Punta Gorda.  Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. (Rain date: Sunday, January 29, with registration at 12:30 p.m. and the Walk at 2 p.m.)

The Council includes St. Vincent Conferences at Sacred Heart, St. Charles Borromeo, St. Maximilian Kolbe and San Antonio Catholic parishes. We invite you to participate and benefit the poor of Charlotte County. Donations made on behalf of registered walkers will help the four conferences provide food, clothing, financial assistance and other essentials to families and individuals most in need during these difficult economic times.

Here’s how you can help:

1. Register to walk: Print the registration and liability waiver forms, fill them out and mail or fax to SVDP District Council of Charlotte County Florida, 25200 Airport Road, Punta Gorda, FL 33950, fax (941) 575-3587. To record your donors’ pledges, print out the walker donation sheet and turn it in with the donors’ checks or cash no later than the day of the Walk.  In advance of check-in, you may drop off the sheet(s) and collected donations at one of the St. Vincent locations listed at right. Please give each donor a receipt from the donor receipt sheet.

If you and/or any of your donors would prefer to make a credit card donation online, please click the PayPal donate button above. Note: Walkers with $20 or more in donations will receive a free T-shirt.

2. Sponsor the Walk: If you are a business or group that would like to be a sponsor of the Walk, please print the sponsorship form, designate the sponsorship level and mail with your check to SVDP District Council of Charlotte Country Florida Inc., P.O. Box 511554, Punta Gorda, FL 33951-1554. Or mail or fax the form, and make your donation via credit card by clicking on the PayPal button. The fax number is 941-575-3587.

3. Volunteer to help with the Walk:  To sign up, please print the volunteer sign-up form, fill it out and mail or fax to SVDP District Council of Charlotte County Florida Inc., P.O. Box 511554, Punta Gorda, FL 33951-1554.  The fax (941) 575-3587.

St. Vincent de Paul is an international Catholic lay organization founded in 1833 to serve the poor, regardless of religious affiliation. It provides food, clothing, home furnishings, and financial assistance to individuals and families in need.

The need for our services has soared in recent years as the down economy has led to staggeringly high unemployment in Charlotte County. Please join us January 29. Walk to help those who so desperately need a helping hand.
